Ankle or Foot Sprains

What is a Foot or Ankle Sprain?

The foot and ankle together, work to provide support and mobility to the body.

Ankle sprain is an injury to the ligaments. This injury usually is an indication of a minor or major tear of the ligamentous structures, causing instability at the foot and ankle.

Most sprains occur from twisting of the ankle during sporting events, walking on uneven surfaces, stepping down from curves or falling,

Symptoms: Pain, swelling, difficulty walking on effected foot

If you think you are experiencing symptoms from an ankle sprain, I recommend that you go and get a XRAY and MRI to eliminate other possible problems.

Home Remedies you can do if you have a true ankle sprain (doctor diagnosis)

RICE Method

R- Rest

I –ice ankle 10-15 min at a time to decrease inflammation

C- Compression of elastic band or sleeve (be sure not too tight to prevent cut off of circulation)

E- Elevation above heart on pillows or chair to decrease swelling

(Be sure to consult with your doctor before conducting any recommendations above)
